A Seattle man is close to entering his second day spent in a tree after he climbed up an 80-foot conifer Tuesday and refused to come down.
The unidentified man, who has become a public spectacle and now has a following of fans, has been in the giant downtown tree for nearly 24 hours. He has refused to cooperate with police negotiators and has chucked an apple, branches and pine cones at officers, authorities said in a statement.
It’s unclear why he scaled the tree and why he refuses to climb down to safety. Seattle police said in a statement that he “appears to be suffering from a crisis” and has claimed to be armed with a knife. “We’re in a holding pattern. We want to maintain his safety,” Seattle police Lt. David Drain told the Seattle Times.
