PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Philadelphia Police officer who was buying a gift for his son as a reward for good grades was shot and killed during a shootout with two suspects who were trying to rob a video game store in North Philadelphia Thursday.
The suspects, who are brothers, have been charged with first-degree murder, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said.
The fallen officer has been identified as Officer Robert Wilson III, an eight-year veteran of the force.
The incident happened at about 4:40 p.m. at the GameStop store at 22nd Street and Lehigh Avenue.
According to Ramsey, Officer Wilson, who was in full uniform, went into the store to buy his nine-year-old son a video game as a reward for good grades in school.
While Officer Wilson was in line, investigators say the two suspects entered the store and announced a robbery.
