Record-Breaking Cold Causing Problems Around Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The latest round of frigid weather to move into our area has actually set a couple of records.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, the record low for Feb. 20 was minus-2 degrees, which was set back in 1936 and matched in 1968.

That record fell this morning as temperatures plummeted to minus-8 degrees.

But, that’s not the only record to have been set.

Thursday’s high of 7 degrees edged out the lowest recorded high temperature for Feb. 19 by two degrees. The previous record of 9 degrees was set back in 1936 as well.

We could see another record fall on Tuesday as well, but time will tell.

As for today, a Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for much of the area through noon.

The extreme cold is causing problems around the area.
