PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Shaler community opened its hearts and wallets to support an event called “Laps for Laurin.”
Last year, 19-year-old Laurin Edwards was shot and killed by her father James Edwards who then turned the gun on himself.
Funds from the memorial walk will support the Laurin Edwards Scholarship Fund.
Laurin was a freshman at St. Francis University.
“I wanted to do something positive in her name,” said Laurin’s mother Charlene Edwards. “I wanted to look at something instead of all the negativity, look at something positive.”
Laurin’s mother and brother James were both injured during the rampage.
“She’s still with us all the time, with us every day,” said James. “We have our good days and our bad days, but we manage to pull through. Every once in a while we have a rough one, but we’re standing together and that’s keeping us positive.”
